Amazon.com Inc. is laying off 261 employees in the Bay Area and 504 statewide. The job cuts affect workers in Sunnyvale, San Francisco, Irvine, Santa Monica and San Diego, Beth Galetti, the company's senior vice president, for people experience and technology enclosure, told state and local employment officials in a series of letters Wednesday. The layoffs will take effect beginning March 19, Galetti said. "Employee separations resulting from this action are expected to be permanent," she said in the letters, which the state Employment Development Department made public Monday.
